About the abbey
The name Mount Zion is derived from the name Zion for the City of God in Jerusalem. The abbey, situated on what was once the pilgrim’s route to Einsiedeln, was an important site for pilgrims. Even today, it is well worth strolling through the elongated building. Mount Zion Abbey is the only abbey of the Premonstratensian Order in Switzerland. People still live, work and pray in the convent.
