The service on the new 185 route will be provided by an electric Postbus, taking approximately one hour, and will run four times a day from Saanen railway station through the Grischbach Valley over the Mittelberg Pass and Abländschen to Jaun mountain railway and back. The Postbus will run at weekends in June, and daily from July until the end of the season. Holders of the Gstaad Card, a digital guest card, can travel for free. Due to renovation work on Grischbachstrasse, the current season will last until 3 September instead of mid-October. The contracting authority for the new service is the municipality of Saanen. This is a two-year trial period that will be continued depending on its success.
Mittelberg is a popular starting point for hikes, for example to the Grubenberg hut (SAC) or over the Hundsrügg to the Sparenmoos. The new Postbus route is flanked by the impressive Gastlosen mountain range, also known as the Swiss Dolomites.
To promote sustainable leisure travel, the service on the new route is provided by an electric Postbus. As this is a trial service, a blue rental vehicle will be used for the first season. By 2024, 100 electic Postbuses will be in use on Swiss roads and by 2040, all Postbuses will be fossil-free.
