Getting to Lake Untersee and the Rhine
From Frauenfeld or Weinfelden, you can travel by Postbus to Lake Untersee and the Rhine. Whether you start your boat trip in Diessenhofen, Stein am Rhein, Steckborn or Ermatingen, the Postbus will take you via the Seerücken, passing through typical Thurgau villages of half-timbered houses and orchards, as far as Lake Untersee or the Rhine.
Above Steckborn, you can enjoy a particularly good view of the entire Lake Untersee.
Out and about on Lake Untersee and the Rhine
The subsequent river cruise offers you pure tranquillity. Protected wetlands are home to numerous bird species. The historic town of Stein am Rhein is located where the Untersee flows back into the Rhine.
This charming little town is well worth a visit. In the old town, you can enjoy venerable half-timbered houses, beautiful façade paintings and dreamy narrow streets. Further downstream is Diessenhofen with its medieval townscape. Here you can discover the old town with its clock tower and city church, as well as the covered wooden bridge over the Rhine.
The return journey by Postbus to Frauenfeld or Weinfelden is available from Diessenhofen, Stein am Rhein, Steckborn or Ermatingen.

Hike from Diessenhofen to Schaffhausen
A varied hike along the Rhine from Diessenhofen to Schaffhausen and back again conveniently by boat. You’ll begin at the pier berth in Diessenhofen, downstream towards Schaffhausen. Trees along the riverbank provide some welcome shade on warm summer days.
The former St. Katharinental Abbey is bypassed on the Rhine side and the trail takes you along the river through the Schaarenwald nature reserve. A little further down the Rhine, you’ll reach this paradise with its dreamy parklands and the Klostergut Paradies monastery.
You can round off your day with a river cruise from the quayside in Schaffhausen. The Postbus will take you from Diessenhofen, Stein am Rhein or Steckborn back to Frauenfeld.
