The Museum of Music Automatons in Seewen, Canton of Solothurn, is around 20 km south of Basel. PostBus route 116 transports you to the stop “Seewen SO, Musikautomaten”, just a few steps away from this world of experiences spanning nostalgic music, elegant devices and mechanic precision.
The tour
On a guided tour through three themed rooms, you can learn interesting technical information and fascinating facts about the musical entertainment enjoyed by our grandparents and great-grandparents. You can experience many of the venerable machines live in action as they amaze and inspire their audience!
For young and old alike
Families with children can combine the magical sounds tour with the guided tour and experiment with resonance, sound and mechanics, and discover how a perforated strip of paper can be transformed into a charming melody.
Another highlight is the short tour to the huge, self-playing concert organ built by the company Welte more than 100 years ago for the Britannic, the sister ship of the Titanic, which sank in 1912.
The alternating special exhibitions delve deeper into interesting topics from the world of mechanical musical instruments and allow visitors to discover a great deal of new things.
