Montebello, Sasso Corbaro and Castelgrande: these are the three Castles of Bellinzona, which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

Simply take route 4 “Bellinzona Stazione–Artore–Cast. Sasso Corbaro” from Bellinzona station. The highest castle, Sasso Corbaro, awaits you at the terminus (PostBus stop: “Bellinzona, Cast. Sasso Corbaro”). This fortress is an excellent example of the sforzesco style of the period and offers a splendid view of the whole Bellinzona area. Last but not least, Sasso Corbaro castle also houses a restaurant that serves excellent specialities.
Continue your trip either on foot through the vineyards or comfortably by Postbus as far as the “Bellinzona, Castello Montebello” stop. This is where the middle castle is located, along with a museum rich in historic and archaeological heritage.
For a perfect end to the day, walk back down to the town and head towards Piazza Collegiata before reaching the majestic Castelgrande. This is the largest and most imposing of the three castles, with its breathtakingly elegant towers and antique fortified walls.
