A climate-friendly route in the Saas Valley

Four new electric Postbuses took to the roads in the Saas Valley in January. They’re part of an extended public transport service providing climate-friendly transport from the Saas Valley to Saas-Fee. In total, PostBus now operates six battery-powered buses in this region.

Improvements in the Saas Valley

The four new electric Postbuses take passengers from Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell to Saas-Fee and back. As well as the new vehicles, more connections have been added on both routes. The new connections will run daily during the winter until the end of the season on 21 April 2024. In Saas-Fee, the electric Postbuses now run all the way to the valley station for the Alpin Express. A huge benefit for winter sports enthusiasts, as they no longer have to change at the bus terminal. The four new electric Postbuses run every 15 minutes. As the departure times are staggered, the attractive service now provides connections between Saas-Grund, Post and Saas-Fee, Alpin Express every 7.5 minutes.

The service in Saas-Fee

There are also improvements to the local bus service in Saas-Fee itself. At weekends, two electric shuttle buses will run every six minutes, stopping at Parkhaus, Busterminal and Alpin Express. As of the timetable change, the new Saas-Fee, Parkplatz Nord–Busterminal–Alpin Express e-bus route runs every 20 minutes. There are also more frequent services for the existing timetable and route management improvements. Finally, investment is also being made in infrastructure: there are new stop shelters in the Saas Valley, level vehicle access and new lockers in Saas-Fee, as well as an upgraded stop with a canopy in Saas-Grund.

Alternative drive systems at PostBus

The four new e-Postbuses are part of the public transport company’s strategy. PostBus plans to convert its entire fleet, which currently consists of around 2,300 vehicles, to alternative drive systems by 2040 at the latest. The four new electric Postbuses in the Saas Valley now take the number of battery-powered buses in operation to 24. This year, PostBus is also launching a significant number of additional e-buses in various regions of Switzerland. The electric Postbuses in Saas-Fee prove that electric services can also operate in mountainous areas. PostBus has successfully been using electric vehicles on a tourist route between Jaun and Saanen in the Bernese Oberland since 2023.
