Netflix series causes winter rush in Iseltwald

Since early summer 2022, PostBus route 103 from Bönigen to Iseltwald has been enjoying exceptionally high demand. Many of the visitors on board are from Asia and are visiting the Lake Brienz peninsula because of the very popular Korean TV drama series “Crash Landing on You”. The series, which is also shown on Netflix, is about a rich South Korean woman who lands in the mountains of North Korea after a paragliding accident and falls in love with a North Korean officer. A key scene in the series was filmed on the wooden jetty in Iseltwald, and even in the bleak winter weather, fans are travelling in droves to the lakeside location indicated on Google Maps.

When the rush started last year, PostBus reacted by expanding its timetable offer between Bönigen and Iseltwald from the end of July.

In autumn, PostBus assumed that demand would decline during the cold season and switched back to the usual timetable at the end of October. But visitors continued to travel to the filming location. In November and December 2022, PostBus carried four times more passengers than is usual for this season, and even significantly more than in the peak season before the coronavirus pandemic. From 28 January 2023, PostBus will therefore add four additional daily return services from Bönigen to its timetable until further notice. Asian fans of the series and local residents will all benefit from this reinforced schedule. PostBus is adapting the timetable apps, and passengers will also be informed of the changes at the bus stops.
