From May, yellow electric Postbuses will transport passengers on Postbus route 185 from Saanen railway station through the Grischbach Valley over the Mittelberg Pass and Abländschen to the chairlift station in Jaun. The journey takes approximately one hour. The season runs from 4 May to 27 October 2024 and is staggered:

• In May and June and from 1 to 27 September, the Postbus will travel on weekends and public holidays
• In July and August and from 28 September to 27 October, four outward and return services will run every day.

The public transport service is financed by the municipality of Saanen and celebrated its launch in summer 2023. The first season exceeded expectations, with around 4,500 passengers on more than 70 operating days. The debut was also a success from a technical perspective: this was the first time PostBus had used an electric vehicle on a seasonal route in the mountains. Due to renovation work on Grischbachstrasse, the first season only lasted until the start of September. This year, however, the Postbus will run between Saanen and Jaun for almost six months, and passengers will benefit from a new service: thanks to a rear carrier, bicycles can be transported on the route. In 2023, a rented blue electric vehicle served the route; this year, two electric Postbuses in the classic design will be brought into opera-tion. The vehicles are used in the tourist region of Flims-Laax in winter and offer space for 59 people. Passengers on the route can also enjoy the sound of the three-tone horn, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

The Mittelberg route is a two-year trial operation. It provides a public transport connection between the Saanen district and the German-speaking part of the Gruyère region. The municipality of Saanen will decide whether to continue the service based on the success of the second season.
