Large-format PostBus images in the heart of Bellinzona
An open-air photo exhibition at the new Bellinzona bus station will display 20 large-format PostBus images. The event will run from 20 April to 12 September 2024 and forms part of two anniversary celebrations marking 175 years of Swiss Post and 10 years of Trasporto Pubblico del Bellinzonese. It will celebrate the development of PostBus, mobility and Ticino landscapes.

From mail coaches in the 1920s and retro scenes in the 1960s right through to electric and autonomous Postbuses: the photo exhibition in Bellinzona takes the audience on a journey through every decade of PostBus’s history. The 20 poster-sized designs can be seen as part of an open-air exhibition at a location of significance to the mobility sector: the bus station at Bellinzona railway station, which was opened in 2019, serves as the backdrop for the photos. Ticino landscapes can be glimpsed in most of the images − from the waterfall in Foroglio to the cypresses in Sant’Abbondio.
The event is being held in honour of two anniversaries: 175 years of Swiss Post and 10 years of Trasporto Pubblico del Bellinzonese (tpb). In Ticino, Swiss Post’s anniversary celebrations are focusing on the services provided by PostBus, which operates almost 80 routes in the canton.
Visitors to the photo exhibition can contribute their knowledge of the exhibited photos as part of a competition. In Bellinzona, Swiss Post’s anniversary celebrations also include a treasure hunt entitled “Alpine post and electric Postbuses”, which runs until 29 September 2024. The hunt covers the entire urban area − and there is something to be won as well.
175 years of Swiss Post and 100 years of the post horn
Swiss Post is celebrating its 175th anniversary with activities in the different regions of Switzerland. The public have the opportunity to travel through Swiss Post’s history and experience the Swiss Post of today and tomorrow. At the same time, PostBus is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the post horn. The Du-Do-Do triad has been ringing out since 1924 − including on many of Ticino’s mountain roads. Stories and facts about the post horn are available on the anniversary page: www.postbus.ch/du-da-do.
